The South-West Lancs Ringing Group is a charitable organisation, and sometimes we extend our services to individuals whose mothers would describe them as 'special'. Last Friday, we continued our charity work in allowing Steve Binney of the Merseyside Ringing Group to come out owling with us. All joking aside, Steve is the Official Number 1 Barn Owler on the Wirral, and contributes to raptor ringing in Scotland in a Golden Eagle sized way, and some might say, an all-round top bloke! 21 Barn Owls ringed so far.
We had news of one of our controlled Long-tailed Tits from the Woodhams in February, it was ringed at Norton Priory by those scallywags in the MRG. Statistically, approximately 1 in 75 birds caught at the Woodhams is a control. More info on that one to follow.....
Finally, at some point this week or into next week depending on the weather, I'll make my first attempt at catching Storm Petrels along Sefton coast. If anyone has any tips then I am open to suggestions!!!
